We work in the waste paper wholesale industry, so we follow various news in this area. Local recycling plants in the US have begun recycling more waste. In particular, news broke in one region that residents of self-service restaurants can now place paper cups in recycling bins. The local recycling plant has learned to recycle paper cups, removing the plastic film that used to make them as water-resistant as possible. Therefore, this waste will now be successfully recycled after use.
It’s worth noting that recycling waste paper is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. The main difficulty stems from the fact that paper waste often contains foreign materials and contaminants. For example, plastic packaging elements, film, adhesive tape, laminated coatings, and metal staples must be separated from the paper pulp. Food residues, oils, glue, paint, and other substances create additional problems. These degrade the quality of the recycled material and can damage equipment. Therefore, waste paper is sorted, cleaned, and prepared before recycling. The fewer foreign components in the collected paper, the easier the recycling process and the higher the quality of the resulting secondary raw material. Some waste, however, cannot be recycled; it essentially becomes dead weight, stored in landfills or incinerated. Therefore, it’s encouraging that recyclers are finding new ways to solve the problems associated with recycling waste paper, particularly those film-coated paper cups.
