Thailand imports a lot of waste paper from abroad. The volumes are large, and they are growing every year. The reason for this is the high demand for used paper and cardboard. Recycling is growing in volume, so a lot of raw materials are required. However, as you know, processors want to get a quality product. And recently, especially from the USA, waste paper has been imported that contains contaminants, and in high content, complicating the recycling process.
As a result, the Thai authorities decided to set new standards. They concern the content of the volume of contaminants in raw materials supplied from abroad. This is done so that waste that is difficult to recycle does not form in the country. Local processors will thus be protected from unreliable suppliers of secondary raw materials. Did the Thai authorities do the right thing? We can confidently say that they did, since the efficiency of recycling depends on the degree of contamination of the original product. And if it is heavily contaminated, it will not be possible to recycle it fully.
