We previously wrote about the restrictions China has imposed on the supply of recycled waste paper. OCC12 and other recycled paper grades imported into the country must be accompanied by information regarding the recycling method. Experts believe these restrictions could create further problems. It’s possible that the import of recycled wastepaper will be banned altogether in the near future, which will negatively impact international trade in this product. However, it’s too early to say. Everything depends on the further actions of both buyers and suppliers of recycled wastepaper.
Currently, for example, American companies are in a state of anxious anticipation. They supply a large amount of recycled wastepaper to China. They are awaiting official Chinese authorities’ announcement regarding when they will begin inspecting imports of this product. China’s announcement has caused considerable concern, and not just among American companies. Many countries supply recycled wastepaper to China. And the requirements being introduced to indicate the recycling method for paper waste could cause supply problems for large-volume products, and, consequently, the market for such goods could be significantly impacted.
