British exporters concerned about China’s decision

11OCC

We previously reported that China has decided to make significant adjustments to its import regulations for recycled paper. This paper is obtained from the processing of OCC11 and other types of waste paper. China has decided to tighten import regulations to ensure higher-quality products are imported. However, these regulations have raised concerns among UK recycled paper exporters. They will now be required to indicate the recycling method used for their recycled paper, as this information has become mandatory for shipping to China.

British exporters believe the new Chinese regulations could harm recycled paper supplies. Waste paper can be processed in various ways, including the dry method. However, Chinese authorities believe this method is of lower quality, resulting in recycled pulp containing harmful substances. UK recyclers disagree. However, China has no plans to abandon the new regulations. Exporters will either have to comply with them or stop supplying dry-processed pulp to China.
